I had the privilege this week of being asked to speak to a group of 150 Junior League women about my career path, my time in the League, and my commitment to service in our Kansas City community. There were so many friends old and new in the room that it was hard to believe I had been asked to speak to such amazing women whom I admire so much! I’ve gotten so much more out of the League than I ever put into it, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to speak at their Membership meeting.
Our final question on the panel presentation was to provide one of our favorite quotes, and I told them:
If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.
Those were the words I repeated to myself every day when I opened my law firm 12 years ago. Every time I consider a new idea I repeat the saying. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said those words while sitting at a Board meeting, and it rings equally true to my small business clients who look to me for guidance in building their businesses.
Change is inevitable. If you can’t embrace new ideas, new methods, and new opportunities, you’ll never know what successes may have awaited you on the other side. The only thing stopping you is fear, and when you take the fear of failure out of the equation, the sky is the LIMIT.
